Kasie's Food Lesson : Nsala Soup

Also called white soup. It is the only soup in Nigeria that is prepared without the use of palm oil, the use of palm oil is not compulsory
It is very popular in the south and eastern part of Nigeria, the igbos are the top makers and consumers of this very delicious and nutritious soup, trust an Anambra man and his stomach. So whenever your husband or fiance is in a bad mood, you can try giving him a meal of pounded yam and ofe nsala, and all would be well

  • Cat fish
  • Beef/chicken
  • Stock fish
  • Ground pepper
  • Fresh pepper
  • Crayfish
  • Yam, pounded as thickener
  • uziza leaf
  • Ground uda seeds
  • Maggi
  • Small sized onion, for preparation of stock
  • Dry fish...Mangala
  • Salt

Step 1: Put the beef/chicken in a pot (preferably medium sized) then add some of the ingredients to prepare your stock. You should add, maggi, pepper, salt, and a tablespoon size of your ground crayfish. cook for about 10-15 minutes till it becomes tender.

Step 2: Once the meat is tender, Add some more water (The amount of water you add would be the quantity of soup you'd end up with). Pour in your mixture of crayfish and pounded fresh pepper. Put the stock fish, dry fish, and the Ground uda. Leave for sometime to boil.

Step 3: Once it starts to boil, put in your pounded yam.The yam serves as thickner so leave it for as long as you like, depending on the thickness you want. You can add more yam if you are not satisfied with the thickness.

Step 4: Put some of the uziza leave.Cover your pot and boil for about ten minutes

Put off your gas/stove and serve with pounded yam, or eba, if you wish......buh I can tell you it tastes better with pounded yam lol.
